Ah, AQUAMAN. The joke character of comics, by fans and non-fans alike. Why does he get zero respect? Me thinks its primarily to his rendition on SUPER FRIENDS. Also, to date I have yet to see a solid kickass comic featuring him (the recent short-lived Pfeifer/Gleason run came close). I think he's a character full of potential and worthy of respect and being one of the "Big Guns" of DC.

One of the biggest problems with Aquaman is that no one really knows what his CHARACTER is; What's his personality and powers? What does he bring to the table? Most people I talk to just say, "yeah, he can talk to fish. That's it. Lame!" I say BAH to that noise. But he does need to be redefined, I think.

First, changes are in order.
* Ditch the angry moody Aquaman.
* Ditch the gladiator look (Gleason did that!).
* Ditch the current Sword of Atlantis bullshit.
* Ditch the constant soap opera love cliche crap.
* Ditch the constant problems with Atlantis. Instead, how about he's a beloved king of a great kingdom. Why must all civilizations mirror our own fucked up, disfunctioning one?

WHO IS AQUAMAN?

PERSONALITY:
* A COOL DUDE, who's also a SUPER-HERO.
* Personable, but not a big talker.
* Honorable, level-headed and cool. He's that guy you wish you could be more like, whether you're a kid or an adult.
* Smart and sharp.... just a SLICK character; the coolest JLA member.
* Comparisons: A mix between Superman (a leader, noble, strong, and A-List but without the frustration and goody personality), Hal Jordan (Brave and a bit cocky) and Batman (Smart, detective, hardass, cool and straight shooter but without the tragedy or darkness).... with some Namor, sans Ego and Temper. Very similar to Captain America, as well!
* Regal and noble. Remember, he's a King and would act as such... but no snobbiness... still very down to earth... like King Aragorn in Lord of the Rings... with some Boromir thrown in.

ABILITIES:
* Very tough. His body is able to withstand the depths of the ocean, so his skin would be extremely tough; bullet "proof" to most conventional bullets.
* Super fast! When he's in the water, its like Superman hauling ass in the sky; maneuvering fast and cool (not swimming like in Super Friends). When he's out of the water, he's still extremely fast (not as much resistance as deep sea water pressure!).
* Control of water - able to condense water and use as weapons or defense, for example. Out of water control, too, which means he can mess with mammals!
* Medium-Level telepathy powers, which includes not only communicating with all sea life, but limited control over... this extends to weak-minded humans as well (mind-reading, influence and limited control).
* Rejuvenation - able to regrow some of his body (as seen in Alex Ross' recent JUSTICE series).
* A great fighter, bringing to the table Atlantean fighting abilities unknown on the surface world.

DC, just make him COOL... which is completely different than "HIP".
No witty banter or slang. Just the cool, rock solid superhero many want to be.
