Jon, thanks for asking us fans for input! Very cool of you and I hope you realize what you've asked for - fanboys are CRAZY!!
With that said, here are our ideas and opinions.
Thanks again!
-----------------------------------
*MUH = Marvel Universe Handbook
WHATEVER YOU DO, PLEASE.....
-Please do NOT let the Studio push for "Opening Weekend Success" oppossed to "Longevity & Success."
-Please do NOT market this to the "Teenage Crowd". Teenagers will see kickass movies, regardless. A good movie will bring in, and KEEP, an audience - much more than marketing. The rest will fall into place.
-Please portray Tony Stark as the brilliant, genius that he is.
-Please do not let Tony Stark use slang. Curse words ok. Slang - no. (you wouldn't have Einstein or Stephen Hawkings say "Yo that's phat, dawg! That's bling!"
-Please, do NOT use the "Ultimates" or "Ultimate Iron Man" Armor for reference.
-Please, NO Manga/Anime influence in the Armor aesthetic design; it is no longer cutting-edge, is overused and is now redundant and cliche.
-Please NO love interest whatsoever. He is a PLAYBOY - he does not have a love interest. Save it for a later sequel.
-Please NO obvious comedic elements (Includes: catch phrases, gimmicky jokes, one-lines)
-Please NO "whitty banter" - keep it serious and keep it "in the Red"
-Please don't do ANYTHING that is done in any WB television show.
-Please, Iron Man is NEVER to do the cliche "Matrix Morpheus 'Come Here' Hand Gesture" during a fight. 'Iron Man does not know Kung Fu.' By extenstion, NO Martial Arts fighting style (It's overdone).
-Please NO Sidekicks of any kind - however, to fill "that role", simply make reference to JAMES R. RHOADES (see MUH); Fans will appreciate that.
-Please do NOT kill of anyone, including villain(s), if they have not been killed in the comics (Don't do a Tim Burton Batman 1 and kill the Joker).
-Please, do not let him" get the girl" at the end (cliche & expected). He's a PLAYBOY (always has been, always will be) - he has plenty. ;)
-Soundtrack: ALL Instrumental. Do NOT date the film with lyrical based music. Which directly leads into the next Essential.....
-Please, NO Black Sabbath "Iron Man"song. Perhaps during credits. (Oh, and if you do use the Black Sabbath "Iron Man" song, ONLY use the ORIGINAL Black Sabbath track with ONLY Ozzy Osbourne singing. NO Covers, even by the original artists)
-
Please, please, please!
Thank you.
WHO IS TONY STARK?
-He's cocky.
-He's slighty immature, reckless & does not want for anything; because....
-He's forever a bachelor; he does not "get the girl" (again, he has plenty...Playboy and all...)
-Initially, being a Superhero is almost a hobby, an adreneline rush. By the time film ends, Stark has evolved into a responsible hero.
-Think "Batman Begins" Bruce Wayne without the tragedy or dark side; Brilliant, grossly wealthy, powerful playboy.
-Builds Weapons of Mass Destruction without thinking of the consequences or responsibility behind it.
-Drinking problem that slowly escalates throughout the film.
-Why the above? Because he is always so close to death from the sharpnel wound, he lives life without consequence.
But also, at his core, Tony Stark is:
-Brilliant; genius behind our Time; surpasses the Einsteins & Stephen Hawkings (....he's Brilliant....)
-Charasmatic.
-A billionaire.
He is BRILLIANT:
-No other can use the Armor as successfully as Stark.
-His mind processes information at a ridiculous rate. He is able to respond and make use of the Armor's technology faster and more creatively than Human or Artificial Intelligence.
-The Armor is NOT Iron Man. TONY STARK in the armor is Iron Man.
FEEL OF THE FILM:
-Intelligent.
-NOT campy.
-Ground one foot in "Reality", the other foot in the FANTASTIC.
-Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games Tom Clancy meets Serious, Intelligent Sci-Fi (ex: Terminator 1, Contact, Blade Runner, Star Trek: THE MOTION PICTURE) and Minority Report.
-Setup possible future Villains, not necessarily soley at the end. Plan for sequels, plant the seeds.
ARMOR:
-Please, do NOT use the "Ultimates" or "Ultimate Iron Man" Armor for reference
-NO Manga/Anime influence in the Armor aesthetic design; it is no longer cutting-edge, is overused and is now redundant and cliche..
-Gray Armor: Look to Invincible Iron Man #6 ("The Extremis" 6-part, By Warren Ellis,March 2006) -Other Armor: Look to Invincible Iron Man COVERS, by Adi Grandov, for the other overall designs for the various incarnations of Armor see MUH, or the original Iron Man
Series.
-Armor has center piece.
-Center chest piece is CIRCULAR (please no triangle), which coincides with circular palm blasters.
CASTING:
-Cast the correct age - AT LEAST 32/33 yrs old
-Please cast a TALENTED, GOOD actor; A THESBIAN - someone who can emote (Do NOT cast Keanu Reeves. Seriously, ok?)
-Charismatic, magnetic personality
-Please do NOT cast "This-Month's-Hot-Actor".
Some talented unknown (he's out there!) who is....
a young Timothy Dalton
a young George Clooney
a young Tom Selek
a James Caviezel
a Tom Cruise
VILLAINS SUGGESTIONS:
-CRIMSON DYNAMO or TITANIUM MAN or IRON MONGER
STORY SUGGESTIONS:
Buy the Essential Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition Volume 1. Read Iron Man's Bio. Do NOT look to the Ultimate Iron Man/Tony Stark for reference (The Ultimate Avengers handled that).
NOTE: He is HUMAN. No mutant ability. No "heightened intellect" due to genetic tampering, technological enhancement or freak accident.
Stark's technology and weaponry snowballs out of control from the Black Market. Iron Man must stop the villain and Tony Stark must take a larger role in his creations.
Villain: Includes a suit of armor based on Stark Technology.
*see CRIMSON DYNAMO, THE TITANIUM MAN and IRON MONGER in the MUH.
3 Unequal Parts:
PART I:
Origin (devote some time. The origin is essential to the character's identity. In the original comic the Origin was a flashback and the character has thrived for decades. A flashback origin in the film will succeed just the same :approx 20-30)*Look to 1979 SUPERMAN movie - it works, Man.
Flashback to pre-armor
Setting: "A War" - Please do NOT date it (ex: Do NOT say it's Gulf War1)
Ground it in Reality, but NOT "Our" Reality - it is the MARVEL UNIVERSE Reality. Use the film to sell the MARVEL UNIVERSE, not Ours.
Ideally: "Somewhere in the South Pacific")
*Go to original storyline;
Tony Stark, brilliant scientist, is prisoner of war and being forced to create weapon for the enemy - an enemy that is UNSPECIFIED. He is wounded. A piece of shrapnel is dangerously close to his heart which is slowly moving closer to the heart. In month's time, he will be dead from it. The Enemy promises to operate and save if he builds a weapon for the enemy. Stark agrees simply to gain access to the equipment. Stark is in with a renowned Asian Physicist (use subtitles), Ho Yinsen. The two first build a suit of armor which with the use of magnetism, a pace maker like device, to keep Tony's heart beating and the piece of shrapnel from moving further towards his heart.
*see Invincible Iron Man #6 ("The Extremis" 6-part, By Warren Ellis,March 2006) how he builds the GRAY ARMOR
*Gray Armor
PART II
:Flash forward "to the Future"/"Present Day"
Tony still has to wear a modified, streamlined chest plate (or variant of....but it's circular) to keep him alive from the sharpnel. Surgery is not an option - just go with it, it's essential to the Story of Iron Man & of Tony Stark.
First time you see him in Part Two, he is in same suit as the original gray, however it is now GOLD.
Introduce the fact Tony Stark is a Billionaire; has a large corporation with a dozen factories around the World.
Emphasis the fact that he is a GENIUS; he is BRILLIANT.
At some point (Giving tour of facility), Tony briefly goes over new technolocgical advancements in Military Applications; As the EMU states, "A Muscular Apperature, that
minimizes sudden compressions, such as a blow, radially dissipating the energy throughout the suit." Show, regardless how, image(s) of the 1st RED & YELLOW Armor; drawings? schematics? diagrams? prototype? whatever.
Introduction to villain happens in this Part. The result: Gold Armor is severely damaged.
PART III: Battles & Defeats Villain.
Introduction to and use of New, Current Armor.
Battles and defeats Villain(s) and saves the day....FOR NOW!!!!!
