In 1962, Topps released a delightful series of trading cards called "MARS ATTACKS!!" Each card gave you a snippet of the carnage of a Martian invasion in gloriously violent and gory detail! The cards were only on stores' shelves for a short time (pulled by angry parents??) but survived in a collector's cult classic manner for over 30 years. Tim Burton adapted the cards into a movie in 1996. Many thought it was merely a ID4 ripoff and/or was too campy/goofy. Personally, I thought it was brilliant and was one of 2 people in the theater who "got it" and was laughing my ass off. One of Burton's few gems, I think. Below are scans of those rare (and now expensive) cards. Enjoy!"Planning to conquer Earth, Mars sends flying saucers through space carrying deadly weapons. Burning the cities, the Martians destroy much of Earth's poplulation. The enemy then enlarges insects to over 500 times their normal size and releases them on the helpless planet. People go into hiding, knowing that death is the consequence if they are discovred by the creatures. Despite its losses, Earth launches a counter-attack that shatters the Martians on their home planet, Mars."

Note: In the late 90s, a few more cards were made to continue on the series. The artwork and style stayed true to the orginal 1962 series. Numbers 1-55 are the original, while #56-66 are the "new" ones.
